Mass scale demonstrations have become common in the last few years. Many of these fears are well founded, and some of them are less supported. Join experienced organizers and street medics to discuss these topics.
The training will cover basic safety practices for going to a public demonstration, what to bring, what not to bring, and preparation to keep yourself and your comrades safe.

International Women's Day Soirée
International Women's Day Soirée
March 8, 2026 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Model Cafe, 7 N Beacon Street, Boston MA, 02134
Join Boston DSA members for a celebration of International Women's Day at Model Cafe in Allston! This event is open to anyone marginalized for their gender identity, including but not limited to women, gender diverse, trans, or genderqueer people. We are in this fight together!
International Women's Day was first observed in the American and international socialist movements in the early 20th century, with working-class women demanding that women's suffrage be a core tenet of socialist organizing. In the United States today, the far-right seeks to erase the hard-fought wins of gender equality by scapegoating our trans and queer neighbours via bigoted legislation across the country. All the while, liberal politicians and corporations have watered down the legacy of socialist movements in the U.S, and sought to disconnect International Women's Day from its anticapitalist roots. As DSA members, we remain steadfast in gender justice and liberation for all!
Model Cafe is a beloved Allston staple known for hosting local queer events like Dyke Descent, Splash Zone, and Things of the Night. In addition to hearing from members of the Gender Justice Working Group, we will be decorating cakes, making rose-themed crafts, and socializing with food and drink!
NOTE: Model Cafe is a cash-only venue. There is an ATM available for patrons!

Boston DSA March General Meeting
Boston DSA March General Meeting
March 14, 2026 @ 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Cambridge Community Center, 5 Callender Street, Cambridge MA, 02139
The Boston chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America typically holds its General Meetings and General Organizing Meetings for all members each month on a weekend afternoon. Interested in DSA but haven't signed up yet? Join us! Members of the public are welcome too.
Winter is winding down, and that means more sunlight – not just in terms of longer days and the return of Daylight Savings Time, but also in demystifying the arcane internal workings of Boston DSA! With our local convention approaching in May, the theme of this month’s General Meeting is organizational transparency – everything you need to know before convention about how the chapter works but were afraid to ask.
Please join us at our chapterwide General Meeting on Saturday, March 14 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Cambridge Community Center in Cambridge to learn about not just what the chapter is doing, but how we are doing it – and how you can help.
This month’s agenda features:
-
An AMA-style panel with current and past Coordinating Committee members about what the CC does, what being on it is like, and why you should think about running for it
-
A presentation and Q&A from our Harrassment and Grievance Officers about the Unified Grievance Policy adopted at the National convention last summer, and what it means for our local conflict resolution processes
-
A Town Hall on a proposed bylaws revision package from the Administrative Committee, aimed at streamlining our bylaws and bringing them into compliance with expectations from the National Democracy Commission.
After all this important talk about bylaws and policies, stick around for some socializing with socialists at an on-site social.
This meeting will be in-person with a hybrid option; please RSVP for the Zoom link. For the in-person meeting, child watch will be provided. Snacks will be available. Masking is strongly encouraged, and masks will be available as well. If you have any accessibility needs or questions, please email accessibility@bostondsa.org and we will do our best to accommodate you.
The Cambridge Community Center is at 5 Callendar Street, Cambridge, MA 02139. It is a half-mile walk from the Central Square T stop, and close to the 1 and 83 bus routes. We will be meeting in the gymnasium, which can be entered directly from the loading dock entrance on Howard Street.

Protest Health and Safety Training 3/15
Protest Health and Safety Training 3/15
March 15, 2026 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Presentation School, Allston Brighton Room, 640 Washington St, Brighton MA, 02135
Mass scale demonstrations have become common in the last few years. A lot of fear and anxiety is spread about the potential dangers of these protests across social media: surveillance technology, less lethal weapons, counter-protesters, and many other dangers. Many of these fears are well founded, and some of them are less supported. Join experienced organizers and street medics to discuss these topics.
The training will cover basic safety practices for going to a public demonstration, what to bring, what not to bring, and preparation to keep yourself and your comrades safe.

AfroSoC Reading Group
AfroSoC Reading Group
March 15, 2026 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Online
We will be reading and discussing Chapter 2 of The Wretched of the Earth by Frantz Fanon. We will meet on Sunday 3/15 at 6pm. The AfroSoC reading group is open to members and non-members of DSA, not just BIPOC comrades!
Reading: (Wretched of the Earth (Frantz Fanon).pdf - Google Drive)
Zoom link: (https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81339341218)
Discussion Questions for Ch 2:
-
Why does Fanon criticize the emergence of political parties?
-
How does Fanon contrast the working classes in capitalist countries and in undeveloped countries? How do the majority of people in undeveloped countries live?
-
What is the divide between country people and townsmen? What is the relationship between country people and nationalist parties?
-
What role do trade unions and national unions play in decolonization?
-
How does the decolonial struggle manifest differently in the towns and in the country? Where does the struggle start, and how does it evolve? What are the “periods” of the struggle?
-
What strategies does colonialism use to fight back against decolonization? How can decolonial movements counter these strategies?
-
How do ethnic and racial lines break down as the decolonial struggle continues?

Solidarity Rally & Vigil for Fishers
Solidarity Rally & Vigil for Fishers
March 16, 2026 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm
North American Seafood Expo-Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, 415 Summer St, Boston MA, 02210
There’s Something Wrong With Our Tuna!
Fishers Demand Rights at Sea
Migrant fishers in Taiwan's distant-water fishing industry, who catch the tuna that ends up in the cans we buy, face routine labor rights violations, including injuries and even death. Fishers are at sea for 6 months or longer without a way to communicate with their families, unions, or regulators, unable to report injury and abuse. Despite the known labor risks in Taiwan’s tuna industry, U.S. companies continue to purchase tuna from the Taiwanese fleet without investing in real protections for workers, putting their own profits ahead of workers’ rights, health, and safety.
The fishers need our support more than ever. Please join us on March 16 from 4:30-6:00pm for a rally & vigil for those lost at sea in front of the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center to show solidarity with migrant fishers working in Taiwan and elsewhere who face dangerous, abusive conditions and extreme isolation at sea.
Please note: this is not a DSA sponsored event. It is a community event being shared by the Labor Working Group.
Sponsored by: MA Global Labor Justice Committee

2026 Immigrants Day at the State House
2026 Immigrants Day at the State House
March 18, 2026 @ 9:30 am - 2:00 pm
Massachussetts State House, 24 Beacon St, Boston MA, 02133
Join Boston DSA's contingent in support of MIRA's 30th annual Immigrants Day at the State House! We will be signing up as a group, networking with other advocacy organizations, and meeting with our legislators to push for the following things in the statehouse:
- Ban 287(g) partnerships - these are agreements between local police and ICE to collaborate
- Prohibit informal collaboration with ICE
- Prohibit immigration arrests in and around courthouses without a judicial warrant
- Detention standards for MA facilities housing immigration detainees
Many of these are effectively in the PROTECT Act proposed by the Massachusetts Black and Latino Legislative Caucus (MBLLC). More details here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1z1-w8oFf_JDZhigviv0_YGDvqPSqMXoj/view?usp=sharing
MIRA is also open to other legislation that achieve the above goals, with the legislative situation changing rapidly in recent weeks.
Below is MIRA's description and outline of the day:
Bring your lived experiences and policy expertise directly to decision-makers. Together, we will help shape policies that reflect the needs, dignity, and humanity of our immigrant communities.
Massachusetts legislators need to hear from their own constituents and advocates—now more than ever—about the issues that matter most and the bills required to address them.

Wholehearted Praxis Workshop #2 (repeat)
Wholehearted Praxis Workshop #2 (repeat)
March 25, 2026 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Online
(Note: This is a repeat of last month's session)
Disagreement and other conflict, if not handled skillfully, can be an existential threat to our movement. The Wholehearted Praxis project is a space where we build skills and knowledge with each other to address that risk proactively. These are important skills not just for conflict resolution, but for successful organizing!
In this session we'll consider techniques from a communication framework called Nonviolent Communication (NVC). NVC takes the view that the syntax we use can subtly reinforce relations of domination and suggests alternatives.
Using a mix of journaling prompts and structured small-group dialogue, we will explore the ways cultural and relational influences show up in our organizing, and practice responding from mutual respect and grounding in shared values.

Evan MacKay is a union leader, pro-democracy organizer, and a Harvard teaching fellow. As a Cambridge LGBTQ+ Commissioner and the former president of the Harvard Graduate Students’ Union, I’ve been organizing in Cambridge around issues of social, racial, environmental, and economic justice for over a decade.
Evan is running for state representative in the 25th Middlesex District to fight for a transparent, accountable government that works for the many, not the few. This campaign isn't about one person. It's about a movement for a better world against a corrupt, self-dealing status quo of Democratic state house leadership.

Game Night! #KnowYourNeighbor Campaign
Game Night! #KnowYourNeighbor Campaign
March 28, 2026 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Super 88 Market Food Court, 1095 Commonwealth Ave, Boston MA, 02215
In these tumultuous times, getting to know your neighbors is becoming more important than ever. Presenting: “Game Night!” Make friends, play games, and relax a little with your neighborhood. Come on- let's take over the food court together!
About the "Know Your Neighbor" Campaign: This event is part of a series called Know Your Neighbor, a new campaign to encourage friendship between neighbors in Allston/Brighton. To reach that goal, we are creating a series of clubs, social hangouts, and third spaces for our community! Given how expensive it is to hang out with your friends in public, the dwindling of third spaces in Allston/Brighton, and the pressure to work all the time- we want to provide a space for relaxation. Where you can actually know who lives in this neighborhood, build lasting friendships, and powerful community. This campaign is part of a coalition between Allston/Brighton DSA and the Greater Boston Tenants Union.
