Priorities
In December 2022, the Boston chapter of the DSA democratically selected two campaigns for 2023. We designed and discussed these priorities in a two-month-long process starting in October 2022.
We Keep Us Safe: Growing Direct Action, Safety & Security in Our Community
The Direct Action, De-escalation, and Security (DADS) Committee provides security resources for DSA, maintains protest logistics infrastructure, and resists the far right in Boston. The right have recently attempted local publicity stunts such as the Patriot Front March, disrupting Drag Queen Story Hours, and an unsuccessful attempt to disrupt the Boston Anarchist Bookfair. With the Community Defense priority, we will model community defense that shows solidarity with the community that doesn’t involve arms or tactical gear. We want to be able to train our own people, as well as other organizations, in skills ranging from first aid, to digital privacy, action logistics, and more.
Expanding Socialists in Office Committees
Boston DSA has made impressive gains in our electoral work in recent years. Currently, we have elected city councilors in Boston, Cambridge, Medford, and Somerville and one State Representative on Beacon Hill. But opportunities to better leverage the power we have, build durable institutional structures to take advantage of future gains, maintain mutual accountability with our chapter’s endorsed elected officials and avoid political conflict or unmet expectations remain. This priority will bring our elected closer to our chapter through expanding or starting Socialists in Office (SiO) committees. SiO committees will be established or expanded under the guidance of the Electoral Working Group in each city in which Boston DSA endorsed officials have been elected to public office.
