Boston DSA's Political Education Working Group invites anyone interested in socialism, Marxism, and political theory to join our newly formed Marxist Classics Reading Group!

Whether you're a member of DSA or just curious, you're welcome to join us to read and discuss works by Marx, Engels, Lenin, and others.

The group starts on Monday, October 28th and runs for three weeks (10/28, 11/4, and 11/11). All sessions are 7:00-8:30 PM.

Tax Harvard! Negotiations between the City Manager and Harvard are happening actively behind closed doors and our communities are being shut out while Harvard doesn’t pay enough. We’ll be tabling on election day and talking with voters to about how they are subsidizing Harvard which has the largest endowment in the world at $53.2 BILLION!

We are going up against Harvard (the oldest corporation in the Western Hemisphere) and election day is the best time to talk with voters about this important issue. We need your help go out into the community to collect signatures to Tax Harvard!

The Boston DSA Coordinating Committee meets semimonthly, usually on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month.
We use these meetings to brainstorm and address administrative issues in the chapter.

Meetings are typically hybrid.

All CC meetings are open to the general membership, but not to the general public.

On specific occasions where the CC is handling sensitive information, it may go into executive session for a portion of the meeting; this will be made known beforehand.

As soon as next week, six resolutions filed by Senator Sanders will come to a vote to block up to $20 billion in military aid to Israel. On Monday, a coalition of organizations including Boston DSA will meet with Markey staffers demanding he sponsor this critical legislation.

We need your help calling thousands of petition signers to ask them to call their Senators for an arms embargo and to join the movement for an arms embargo.

Join us for a campaign-planning working meeting! We have several campaign proposals brewing in small groups right now. This meeting will be a space to share updates, take temperature checks on how things are going, and most of all, get work done. Everyone who attends will have the chance to work on whichever campaign proposal is most energizing to them. By the end of this meeting, we may even find that one or more of our campaigns are ready for launch.

Join Boston DSA's Queer Affinity Group as we relax together, recharge from an election season and a year that have seen non-stop attacks on trans and queer rights, and raise money for the Pink Haven Collective, a coalition "working together to create networks of safety and direct support for trans beloveds and their families who need to relocate, access healthcare across state lines, or stay as safe as possible where they are." We'll have tea, hot cocoa, and some light snacks. There's no cost to attend, but we will be collecting donations for Pink Haven Collective, if you're able.

Join us for the first meeting of our reading groups series on Kohei Saito's "Slow Down: The Degrowth Manifesto".

This meeting will be hybrid - in person in Somerville near Porter Square and on Zoom. Please RSVP for the in-person address.

Book summary from the publisher:

"Why, in our affluent society, do so many people live in poverty, without access to health care, working multiple jobs and are nevertheless unable to make ends meet, with no future prospects, while the planet is burning?

In his international bestseller, Kohei Saito argues that while unfettered capitalism is often blamed for inequality and climate change, subsequent calls for “sustainable growth” and a “Green New Deal” are a dangerous compromise. Capitalism creates artificial scarcity by pursuing profit based on the value of products rather than their usefulness and by putting perpetual growth above all else. It is therefore impossible to reverse climate change in a capitalist society—more: the system that caused the problem in the first place cannot be an integral part of the solution.

Instead, Saito advocates for degrowth and deceleration, which he conceives as the slowing of economic activity through the democratic reform of labor and production. In practical terms, he argues for:

• the end of mass production and mass consumption
• decarbonization through shorter working hours
• the prioritization of essential labor over corporate profits

By returning to a system of social ownership, he argues, we can restore abundance and focus on those activities that are essential for human life, effectively reversing climate change and saving the planet."

Israel's genocide in Gaza, carried out with US planes, bombs, tanks,
and shells, is continuing to escalate, with now the entirety of north
Gaza, including the former location of Gaza City, turned into a free
fire zone where anyone who moves is bombed and shot and where no food or
resources are allowed in.

U.S. arms deliveries violate both the Arms Export Control Act and the
Lahey Law, but Secretary of State Blinken's lies to Congress have
allowed the U.S. to continue to supply the genocide.

Senator Bernie Sanders has introduced six Joint Resolutions of
Disapproval (JRD's) in the Senate (S.J.Res.111 to S.J.Res.116) to block
delivery of $20 billion worth of U.S. arms — paid for by the U.S.
taxpayer — that Israel has used to carry out war crimes. Massachusetts
Senators Warren and Markey have not made their positions clear. We
call on our Senators to sign on to these resolutions immediately so that
other Senators will know that they, too, must step forward or be held
accountable by history.  Read more about the JRD's and about the National Days of Action Nov. 14-28 to support them.

We will rally in front of Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Sen. Ed Markey'
offices at the JFK Federal Building in downtown Boston, and at 1550 Main
St. in Springfield, Wednesday, Nov. 14, 12:30 pm, to deliver letters
signed by some 90 Massachusetts organizations and 1,000 individuals,
calling on them to support the JRD's.  Join us there!

Join Boston DSA for a post-election mass meeting. Hear from the chapter’s ongoing campaigns and help prepare our organizing and electoral vision going into 2025 - whatever party wins the election.

Doors will open at 11:30am and the meeting will begin promptly at 12:00pm. A late lunch will be provided.

This month’s meeting takes place at The Foundry, located at 101 Rogers St, Cambridge MA 02142. In-person attendance is strongly encouraged to participate in the day’s events. Boston Radical History Walking Tour is back! Come learn about Boston's radical history with the Political Education Working Group (PEWG)! We will start at Back Bay station (south entrance) and end at 256 Hanover St in the North End. The tour takes about two hours. Please wear comfortable shoes + bring water. The tour is free. The current city manager system puts severe roadblocks to democratic control of the city budget, greater affordable housing, and higher spending on public services.
