Boston DSA members are invited to join Families for Justice as Healing and the National Council for Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls for the FreeHer 5k on Saturday, September 10, from South Bay Jail to the State House. This 3.1 mile walk will uplift their demands to invest in communities and end the incarceration of women and girls.
The walk is a continuation of the No New Women’s Prison campaign to enact a 5 year moratorium on building new prisons and jails in Massachusetts. The moratorium bill was vetoed at the end of the legislative session by Governor Baker. We are now demanding that legislators call a special session to pass the Prison Moratorium. This will only happen with sustained public pressure! Campaign supporters walked 90 miles last year to demand a prison moratorium, and the fight continues!
After the march, there will be a brief rally at the State House at around noon, followed by a picnic lunch on the Boston Common. Register to join the march and rally today, and join the contingent Signal chat to coordinate with other attendees!
