Boston DSA endorses the Massachusetts Medicare for All bills H.1239 & S.744, and submitted the following written testimony of the bill:
Dear Chair Friedman, Chair Lawn, and members of the Joint Committee on Health Care Financing,
We are the Boston chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). We are writing today in favor of An Act Establishing Medicare for All in Massachusetts H.1239 & S.744. While Massachusetts has almost universal health insurance coverage, we know coverage does not guarantee care. High premiums, copays, and deductibles still prevent people in our state from seeking the care they need. 41% of Massachusetts families report struggling to pay for healthcare costs, with costs continuing to increase. Healthcare is a necessity. In a state with vast healthcare resources, we should be able to provide healthcare to all in our state without the fear of inability to pay or medical debt. Massachusetts has led on increasing health insurance coverage and now it’s time to lead on providing healthcare to all. Healthcare should be a universal right rather than a privilege. This bill will save lives and improve the quality of life for people in Massachusetts. Please report H. 1239 and S.744 An Act Establishing Medicare for All in Massachusetts favorably. Thank you for your consideration and attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Democratic Socialists of America, Boston chapter
