BOSTON DSA CONGRATULATES CAMBRIDGE PUBLIC LIBRARY STAFF ASSOCIATION ON CONTRACT VICTORY

Jan 9, 2025 | Cambridge, Chapter Updates, Labor

Cambridge, MA – Boston DSA congratulates our friends and neighbors in the Cambridge Public Library Staff Association on their hard-fought contract victory. After over a year of struggling for their rights, the CPLSA won a contract that achieved all of their primary goals. 97% of CPLSA members have voted to approve the new contract, which includes a functional wage increase of nearly 5%, new health and safety protections with worker input, democratization of workplace standards, and fairer staffing practices.

Boston DSA was proud to stand with the CPLSA in their struggles for a fair and democratic workplace. DSA members joined CPLSA stand outs, bringing snacks, coffee, and energy to show our library staff their community was behind them. Working Mass, a DSA publication, chronicled CPLSA’s ongoing efforts last fall. We are glad to see city leadership finally show some recognition of what has been clear since this fight began—our library staff, and all workers, deserve fair wages and democratically-determined safe work conditions.

CPLSA’s victory is yet another reminder of the power of an organized and militant working class. By standing unified in their demands and holding regular demonstrations against their employer’s practices, they were able to achieve meaningful wins against an intransigent city government with an unelected City Manager controlling the purse strings. Boston DSA members will continue these struggles in our own unions and stand ready to support our neighbors who, like CPLSA, are ready to demand a better, more democratic workplace.
